About Mhyar
Mhyar Istanbouli is an experienced guitar teacher and classical guitarist who has recently moved to Australia from France.
Mhyar has been passionate about music from a young age. In France, he studied a Bachelor of Musicology at Université Lumiere Lyon 2, and a Diploma of Classical Guitar (Music and Performance) at the École Nationale de Musique (the Conservatory of Lyon). Mhyar has experience teaching guitar in schools in France, and in a private capacity to students of all ages.
With a big interest in popular music from around the world, Mhyar enjoys playing Brazilian choro, African rhythms and oriental scales using classical guitar techniques inspired byYamandu Costa and Derek Gripper.
Mhyar believes in the importance of understanding music in addition to playing it. He incorporates aural comprehension and music reading into his lessons, with a focus on students’ connection to the music.
