ACT Music Competition 2024 - Syllabus

Cash prizes will be awarded for a number of sections as sponsorship allows. These will be published in the program which will be released on Monday 13th May. Certificates and medals for all sections where cash prizes are not available.

Adjudicator 2024: Rosalind Graham
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, Rosalind Graham studied the cello with Andrew Schulman, Derek Simpson and Lionel Handy whilst in the UK. She has performed extensively in Europe with orchestras including Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. Since moving to Australia, Rosalind has performed regularly as principal cellist with the Ku-ring-Gai Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a teacher, Mrs Graham has over 18 years’ experience teaching at St. Ignatius College, MLC School, The Kings School and Moriah College. She worked for several years tutoring and directing chamber ensembles at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Open Academy.
In addition to being a strings examiner for the AMEB, Rosalind maintains a thriving private studio, teaching from beginner through to Diploma level.
Rosalind is an active supporter of the KPO NSW Secondary Schools Concerto Competition giving performance opportunities to many of NSW finest young musicians. She further fosters music education by helping to establish string programmes in Sydney primary schools.

SECTION C01 – Championship – Open age
Entry Fee: $35 Time Limit: 15 mins
Required Repertoire: One or more movements of a baroque, classical or romantic concerto AND one unaccompanied work of any era.
Prizes: 1st $300, 2nd $150, 3rd $50
SECTION C02 – Chamber Music – Open age
Entry Fee: $30 Time Limit: 10 mins
Open to duos, trios, quartets, quintets and sextets - any ensemble of 2 to 6 players including piano and instrumental combinations. All members of the ensemble are to be considered entrants so a professional accompanist will not be allowed. Piano duets are permitted.
